This painting takes the mind on a journey. The misty images of Sir Robert Dunsmuir, the Locomotive Engineer and Loggers, shadows the trestle like spirits looking in from the forest. Dunsmuir looks across the valley to the three men who represent those who constructed and traversed this amazing structure. The painting symbolizes the tough challenges of opening up the Canadian West. Dunsmuir with his immense vision for the railway, and the contrasting reality of the tough and demanding work required to make it a reality. The images in the painting are taken from archival photographs, and together depict a vignette of the delicate heritage of wooden heirlooms left to us by great Canadians.
